AMBASSADOR:  

Shri Mohammed Afzal is Ambassador of India to Turkmenistan since 24 September 2007. Before taking up his current assignment, he was Ambassador of India to Angola since August 2005.

Shri Afzal was Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) from 1990-96. He has been Editor of Akhbar-e-Nau, a journalist and has been associated with the problems of the minorities, slum development, expansion of Urdu journalism. He has been the President of All India Urdu Editors` Conference; (or Vice President) Member of All India Urdu Newspaper Editor`s Conference, Federation of Legislatures of India, etc. He has also been member of Central Haj Committee of the Ministry of External Affairs.

EMBASSY:
 
The Embassy is located in the heart of the capital city of Ashgabat in the Emperyal`s Business Centre across the Olympic Stadium. The Embassy of India was first opened in Turkmenistan on 31 January 1994 and was initially housed in Nogina Hotel. The Embassy shifted to its present location in January 2000.
